You’ve poured your heart into writing, producing, and recording your music. Now, it's time to get it heard. In 2024, there’s no platform more powerful for music discovery than TikTok. But just uploading videos of your cat set to your new single isn't enough. To truly level up, you need to unlock the tools the pros use.
Welcome to the TikTok Artist Account.
This isn't just a fancy label on your profile. It's a game-changing toolkit that gives you more control, better visibility, and a direct line to your growing fanbase. It’s the difference between being a user with music and an artist on the platform.
Ready to supercharge your music promotion and fan engagement? Here’s how to switch your TikTok account to an official Artist profile in 10 easy steps.
Before we dive into the "how," let's talk about the "why." An Artist Account gives you exclusive features, including:
The "Music" Tab: A dedicated tab on your profile that showcases your entire catalog, like a mini-Spotify right on TikTok.
Official Artist Branding: Your songs get the official "Artist" label, adding a layer of credibility.
The "New Music" Tag: When you release a new track, it gets a special promotional tag to let the world know it's fresh.
Pin Your Song: You can pin one of your songs to the top of your profile, driving all your profile visitors to your latest and greatest track.
Behind-the-Scenes Access: Potential for exclusive features like "Behind the Song" and enhanced analytics to see how fans are interacting with your music.
This is the most crucial first step. You can't claim an artist profile if your music isn't officially on the platform. To do this, you must use a digital music distributor.
Action: Sign up with a service like DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, or a similar distributor and upload your music. Make sure you select "TikTok" as one of the platforms you want to distribute to.
If you don't already have one, create a TikTok account. If you do, make sure it’s ready for prime time. Your username should be your artist name (or as close as possible), your bio should link to your other socials or streaming platforms, and your profile picture should be professional.
To access analytics and other professional tools, you need to be on a Business or Creator account. The Business Account is generally recommended for artists.
Once your distributor has processed your music (this can take a few days to a week), your song will be available in the TikTok sound library. It's time to go find it.
Now that you've found your song, you need to use it. This officially links the sound to your activity on the platform. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece—just create a short video using your track.
Here's a key requirement many people miss: TikTok generally wants to see that you are an active artist on the platform. Before you can claim your page, you usually need to have at least four TikTok videos published using your music. Get creative and encourage a few friends to use it, too!
This is the magic moment. Once you meet the requirements, the option to become the official artist for your music will appear.
Action: Go back to the sound page for your song (you can get there by clicking the spinning record on any video that uses the track). You should see a banner or a button that says "Claim your artist page" or something similar.
Note: Some modern distributors are integrating this step into their own dashboards, so be sure to check your distributor's "Tools" section as well.
Step 8: Verify You're the Artist.
TikTok needs to confirm you are who you say you are. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your identity. This process is usually quick, and once approved, your account will be updated.
Congratulations, you're in! The first thing you should do is explore your new powers. Go to your profile and you'll see the brand new "Music" tab. This is where TikTok will automatically list your songs.
Step 10: Pin Your Priority Track & Promote!
Now, put your best foot forward. Choose the song you want to promote the most—your new single, your most viral track, or the song that best represents you—and pin it to the top of your profile.
Action: Go to the Music tab, find the song, tap the three dots (...) next to it, and select "Pin to profile."
You're an Official TikTok Artist. Now What?
Getting the Artist Account is just the beginning. Now, it's time to use it. Engage with fans who use your sound, analyze your music's performance in your analytics, and keep creating content that shows the world the person behind the music.
Your next viral hit is waiting. Now go make some noise.
